Mahesh Waman Manjrekar is a famous & talented Indian director, actor, writer and producer. He is credited with directing the critically acclaimed films like ‘Vaastav: The Reality’, ‘Astitva’ and ‘Viruddh’. He has also acted in many Marathi & Bollywood movies. He has won a National Film Award and two Star Screen Awards.

Journey in the Industry
Mahesh Manjrekar is one of the talented people of Marathi film industry who have contributed a lot in this industry. He started as a writer with a Marathi film ‘Aai’. In 2001, he directed and wrote the story of the movie ‘Astitva’, which was also dubbed in Hindi and received National and Screen awards.
Manjrekar played the role of Shivaji Maharaj in a Marathi film ‘Mee Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy’ which saw a grand success at the box office. In 2011, he played the role of Baba Bhai in the multi-starrer Marathi movie ‘Fakt Ladh Mhana’. He also acted in the movies like ‘Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha’ starring Anusha Dandekar and then in ‘Kurukshetra’ starring Shewta Salve in lead roles. He played the role of Doctor in his own movie ‘Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho’ in 2010. He also acted in the political theme movie ‘Aajcha Divas Majha’ in 2013.
As an actor Mahesh Manjrekar first gained acclaim was for his role as Bali in the film ‘Kaante’ in 2002. His negative role in the film was credited by critics and audience. Later he played negative roles in many Bollywood films such as ‘Plan’, ‘Zinda’, ‘Run’, ‘Musafir’ and more. He has acted in many of his own films. He played an advocate Prasad Pradyuma in the movie ‘Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav’. He played the role of Munna Bhai in the movie ‘Pran Jaye Par Shaan Na Jaye’. He has also acted in the multi-starrer film ‘Dus Kahaniyaan’ in a story of Strangers In The Night. He portrayed the role of Don Javed in the Oscar nominated movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. He has also worked with Salman Khan in four movies like ‘Wanted’, ‘Ready’, ‘Badyguard’ and ‘Dabangg’. He played the role of Inspector Talpade in ‘Wanted, Father of Sonakshi Sinha in ‘Dabangg’, Father of Salman Khan in ‘Ready’ and Goon Ranjan Mahatre in ‘Bodyguard’. He played the role of opponent lawyer in the movie ‘Oh My God in 2012’. In 2013, he played the role of Sher Singh in Sajid Khan’s movie ‘Himmatwala’, which was the re-make of 1983 movie ‘Himmatwala’. In the same year, he played a supporting role as Inspector Shinde in Ekta Kapoor’s movie ‘Shootout at Wadala’.
Mahesh Manjrekar has also acted in Telugu film ‘Okkadunnadu’ in 2007, ‘Homam’ in 2008, ‘Adhurs’ and ‘Don Seenu’ in 2010. He has also acted in a Tamil film ‘Arrambam’ in 2013 in a role of Mahadev Rane.
Mahesh entered into Bollywood as a director and screenplay writer for the super-hit movie ‘Vaastav’ starring Sanjay Dutt. He also appeared in the song of that movie. In 2000, he also directed and wrote the story of the movies like ‘Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain’ and ‘Kurukshetra’. He has directed and written various movies like ‘Tera Mera Saath Rahe’, ‘Hathyar’, ‘Rakht’, ‘Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav’, ‘Viruddh’, ‘Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi’ and many more. He has directed comedy as well as drama genre films.
He has also directed Marathi movies like ‘Lalbaug Parel’, ‘Fakta Ladh Mhana’ and ‘Kaksparch’. He has written the story of Marathi films like ‘Matichya Chuli’, ‘De Dhakka’, ‘Mi Shivajiraje Bhosle Boltoy’ and Kutumb. He has also written and directed for the movies like ‘Aai’, ‘Nidaan’ and ‘Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho’. All his Marathi films were hit on the box-office. In 2013, Mahesh Manjrekar directed another film on Marathi manoos ‘Kokanastha’, which was the adaptation of his own Hindi movie ‘Viruddh’.
Mahesh Manjrekar has played the role of Harpist Dongara in the Aakhri Chunauti series of episodes in Sony TV’s ‘C.I.D.’. He has played a villain’s role on Zee TV’s show ‘Monica Mogre Case Files’. He has also directed the episode of ‘Specials At 10’ for Sony TV. Not only that he participated as a contestant in the comedy show ‘Arey Diwano Mujhe Pehchano’ and was among the finalist in the season one of the dance reality show ‘Jhalak Dikhala Jaa’. He has hosted the Star Pravah’s show ‘Panchanama’ and had also judged Zee Marathi’s show ‘Maharashtracha Superstar’. He had also produced a show name ‘Tuze Maze Jamena’ for Zee Marathi.
Mahesh Manjrekar was the Vice Captain of the CCL team ‘Veer Marathi’ which was formed by Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh in 2013.
Mahesh Manjrekar is married to Medha Manjrekar and they have two children Ashwami Manjrekar and Satya Manjrekar.
