Rahul Vaidya is an Indian singer, who came into limelight after becoming the finalist of ‘Indian Idol’ season one, along with Abhijeet Sawant.
Early Life & Background
Rahul was born on 23rd September, 1987 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. However, he was brought up in Mumbai. He is son of Engineer Krushna Vaidya and Geeta Vaidya. He has sister name Shruit. Since his childhood, Rahul was fond of music and so he got training under Suresh Wadkar. He used to participate in various child talent competitions like ‘Aao Jhoomein Gaayein’ and so on. He completed his schooling from Hansraj Moraji School and later, completed further education from Mithibai College, Mumbai.
First assignment/ First major break
His first break and major break was ‘Indian Idol’, where he secured third position.
Journey in the industry
While studying in Second Year Junior College in Mithibai College Mumbai, Rahul gave the audition for ‘Indian Idol’ and got selected. He was among the top 10 singers of Indian Idol and ended up as a second runner-up or third finalist. He was one of the strong contenders of the show, who got eliminated in the penultimate round. Though he didn’t win the show, but he was very popular among the viewers.
Eight months after ‘Indian Idol’, Rahul released his debut album ‘Tera Intezar’. The album was super-hit and featured the music composed by Sajid-Wajid. Later, he debuted in the Bollywood by singing duet ‘Hello Madam, I am your Adam’ with Prajakta Shukre and ‘God Promise Dil Dola’ with Shreya Ghoshal in the movie ‘Shaadi No.1’.
Rahul has also sung a title track of the Sony TV’s serial ‘Ek Ladki Anjaani Si’. He later hosted the show ‘Jhoom India’ for Sahara One. In 2008, he participated in another singing reality show ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar’, which use to air on Star Plus. The format of the show was a battle between Winners of pervious shows vs the runner-ups. The show consisted of various reality show singers like Debojit Saha, Ishmeet Singh Sodhi, Harshit Saxena, Himani Kapoor, Toshi Sabri, Ravindra Ravi, Vinit Singh, Amey Date along with Rahul’s Indian Idol contestants like Abhijeet Sawant, Amit Sana, Amit Tandon and Prajakta Shukre. Rahul defeated everybody and became the first ever winner of the ‘Jo Jeeta Wahi Superstar’.
Later, Rahul also participated in the singing show ‘Music Ka Maha Muqqabla’ and was in Shankar Mahadevan’s team named ‘Shankar’s Rockstars’. His team defeated Shaan’s team ‘Shaan’s Stirkers’ in the finale and won the ‘Music Ka Maha Muqqabla’. He also hosted the dance show ‘Aaja Mahi Vay’ with the reality show singer Vinit Singh for Star Plus.
Rahul was a playback singer for the Bollywood films like ‘Jigyaasa’, Hot Money’, ‘Jaam-E-Mann’ and ‘Krazzy 4’. Apart from Hindi, he debuted in Marathi movies with a song ‘Aabhas Ha’ from the movie ‘Yanda Kartavya Aahey’. He has also sung for Tamil and Kannada movies. In 2013, his song ‘Be Intehaan’ from the movie ‘Race 2’ became quite popular among masses.
Rahul till date has done over 1200 shows in India and Abroad. He also replaced Falguni Pathak and performed for the Sankalp group, Mumbai in 2010. He has also performed live concerts in the US, Bangladesh and Maldives. He has also sung the song ‘Kero Mama’ in the album ‘Burn The Dance Floor’.
