Brief Intro
Mahesh Kothare is a Marathi actor, director and producer. Mahesh started working in the industry at a very young age. He had acted in many popular Marathi movies like ‘Zapatlela’, ‘De Danadan’, ‘Dhadakebaaz’, ‘Pachhaadlela’, ‘Full 3 Dhamaal’ and many more. He has also acted in few Hindi movies. The duo of Mahesh Kothare & Laxmikant Berde was famous in Marathi film industry.
First assignment/ First major break
Mahesh started his career from the Hindi movie ‘Raja Aur Runk’, but he became popular from his debut Marathi movie ‘Gupchup Gupchup’.
Journey in the industry till date
Mahesh started his journey by debuting in Hindi film ‘Raja Aur Runk’. After that he did few hindi films like ‘Safar’ in a role of Feroz Khan’s younger brother and then in ‘Mere Laal’ and ‘Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani’.
Mahesh then debuted in a Marathi movie ‘Gupchup Gupchup’ in the year 1983. In 1985, Mahesh came forward as a film director with the movie ‘Dhoom Dhadaka’. He also portrayed the role of Ashok in the movie. Later, he started acting & directing the movies and then Mahesh gave a blockbuster films back to back. He mostly played the role of Inspector in his movies with his first name as Mahesh itself.
In 1987, he acted and directed in the super-hit comedy action movie ‘De Danadan’ along with Laxmikant Berde. In 1989, he portrayed the role of CID Inspector Mahesh Jadhav in the movie ‘Thartharat’ and then he played the role of Mahesh Nemade in the movie ‘Dhadakebaaz’ in 1990. Both the movies were directed by Mahesh. He once again played the role of CID Inspector Mahesh Jadhav in the horror comedy movie ‘Zapatlela’. It was the blockbuster Marathi movie and one of the major hit of Mahesh’s career. The movie was later dubbed in Hindi. The villain character of the movie ‘Tatya Vinchu’ which was a puppet doll became the most famous character.
In 1996, Mahesh directed and acted in the movie ‘Masoom’. In 2000, he directed and acted in another horror comedy movie ‘Khatarnak’ along with Laxmikant Berde. In 2004, he directed the movie ‘Pachhadlele’ starring Bharat Jadhav, Shreyas Talpade, Vandana Gupte, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Laxmikant Berde and more. It was the blockbuster movie and Mahesh had also played a cameo in the movie as Inspector Mahesh Jadhav. He also did guest appearance in the movie ‘Khabardar’ in 2005. Then he directed the romantic movie ‘Shubhmangal Savadhan’ in 2006. In 2007, he acted and directed the action-comedy movie ‘Zabardast’. The character of the movie was similar to that of ‘Krrish’. In 2008, he directed the multi-starrer movie ‘Full 3 Dhamal’. In 2010, he directed his son Adhinath Kothare in the romantic movie ‘Ved Laavi Jeeva’. Even in his next movie ‘Dubhang’, Mahesh roped in his son Adhinath in a lead role. In 2013, he made a sequel of the blockbuster movie ‘Zapatlela’ with the all new cast and titled it as ‘Zapatlela 2’. It was the first Marathi movie, which was released in 3D.
In a meanwhile, he also directed movies like ‘Mazha Chhakula’ and ‘Dhangad Dhinga’. He used the Dolby Digital sound for the first time in Marathi cinema for his film ‘Chimni Pakhara’. He also directed the Hindi movie ‘Lo Main Aagaya’ in 1999.
Personal life
Mahesh Kothare has a son name Adinath who is a Marathi actor. Adinath is married to an actress Urmila Kanetkar.
