Sharad Ponkshe is a noted Marathi actor who has worked in Movies, Serials and Plays. He is popularly known for portraying the lead role in ‘Me Nathuram Godse Boltoy’.
Early Life and Background
Sharad completed his SSC and later completed Government Diploma of NCVT. He then worked in BEST for almost 12 years.
First Assignment/Major Break
Sharad started his career from Ekankika competitions, however, his major break was through the play ‘Me Nathuram Godse Boltoy’.
Journey in the Industry
Since last 25 years Sharad Ponkshe is working in Marathi Film Industry. In 1978 he participated in Ekankika Spardha with Ramesh Pawar’s play ‘Meha’ and ‘Hunger Strike’. Later he participated in many such competitions from 1978 to 1994. Even while working in BEST he used to participate in Rajya Natya Spardha. Once while performing ‘Kalokhachi Savali’, Raghuvir Takshilkar who was a judge for the event spotted him and suggested his name for Kalavaibhav Group.
‘Varun Sagle Sarkhe’ was his first commercial play where he played a role of Lord Indra, where he just earned Rs.60. It was actually his turning point as he was been recognized in theatre industry and he played small roles in many plays. Later he got selected for the most popular play ‘Me Nathuram Godse Boltoy’. The first day first show of the play was house full, however, due to some controversial reasons Government banned this play. Very less people could see this play as it was released on 10th July 1998 and ended on 17th July 1998. Later in the year 2001, courts ordered to release the play ‘Me Naturam Godse Boltoy’ and on 16 March 2002, the play was re-released in Dinanath Mangeshkar Natya Gruha. The play was commercially successful.
After this, Sharad got offer from the first ever Marathi Daily soap ‘Damini’ where he played the role of Uday Karkhanis for 7 long years. Later he started getting better and strong roles and people started appreciated him for his work. In his acting career, he did all kinds of roles and proved to be a versatile actor. His most acclaimed role was in the movie ‘Mokla Shwas’ opposite Prateeksha Lonkar. He was also nominated in ‘Maharashtracha Favorite Kon’ in the Best Villain category for this movie.
Currently, he is seen playing the role of Dhanraj in Vasant Kanitkar’s play ‘Suyog Sarkhi Sanstha’ directed by Mangesh Kadam. He was also seen in the Zee Marathi’s serial ‘Radha Hi Bawari’ which went off air on March, 2014. Later in 2014, he replaced actor Vinay Apte after his death in the Star Pravah’s popular serial ‘Durva’.
Sharad is a great believer of Veer Savarkar. He is influenced by Savarkar’s thoughts as he had read many books of Veer Savarkar. He even had started Savarkar Vichar Dharashan group which delivers speech about Savarkar and his thoughts. The group has successfully conducted 400 shows. Currently he is also arranging workshops about Indian National Anthem. ‘Nathuram Te Devram: Lakh Molachya Gappa’ in this show he performed all of his characters from his all historical plays.
Other than acting, Sharad Ponkshe is an active member of Shiv Sena Chitrapat Sena.
