Swapnil Joshi is an Indian actor, who has worked in various Marathi movies and in Hindi-Marathi serials. He is popularly known for his role of young Krishna in Ramanand Sagar’s television soap ‘Krishna’. He is also popular for playing lead in Marathi serial ‘Ek Lagnachi Dusri Goshta’ and Marathi movie ‘Duniyadari’.
Early Life & Background
Swapnil was born on 18th October 1977 in Mumbai. He completed his schooling from Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Parsee Charitable Institution, Mumbai and graduated from Sydenham College, Mumbai. He then pursued the law course and became a professional lawyer.
First assignment/ First major break
Swapnil first played the role of young Kush in the serial ‘Uttar Ramayan’, however, he became popular for playing the role of young Krishna in the serial ‘Krishna’.
Journey in the industry
At the age of nine, Swapnil started his acting career with Ramanand Sagar’s mythological show ‘Uttar Ramayana’, where he played the role of young Kush (Ram’s son). It was a sequel of the serial ‘Ramayana’. In 1993, he was offered the role of young Krishna in another Ramanand Sagar’s mythological show named ‘Krishna’. He got immensely popular for portraying this role and people used to worship him by considering him as real Krishna.
Later, Swapnil took a break from acting and made a comeback as a youth actor with Sanjeev Bhattacharya’s serial ‘Campus’. He then continued working in Hindi serials like ‘Hudd Kar Di’, ‘Dil Vil Pyar Vyar’, ‘Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand’, ‘Hare Kaanch Ki Choodiyan’ and more. During 1997, he played the role of Inder in Zee TV’s most popular show ‘Amanat’. The serial had lot of current known faces like Gracy Singh, Shreyas Talpade, Swapnil Joshi, Smita Bansal, Harsh Khurana and Arif Zakaria. Then, he played the role of Dhruv, a parallel lead in the serial ‘Kehta Hai Dil’. He also portrayed the role of Dr. Prakash in the popular show ‘Bhabhi’. He played the role of Arjun, Supriya Pilgaonkar’s youngest son in the serial ‘Kadvee Khatee Meethi’, which was a sequel of super-hit comedy show ‘Tu Tu Main Main’. He also hosted the kid’s talent show named ‘Chota Packet Bada Dhamaka’. In 2008, he participated on Sony TV’s show ‘Mr & Mrs TV’, which was judged by Madhur Bhandarkar and Sonali Bendra. He won the show along with actress Purvi Joshi.
Swapnil then turned his attention towards comedy shows and participated in the first season of ‘Comedy Circus’. He was paired with VIP and the duo was declared as Runners up of the show. Later, he was the contestant of various seasons of ‘Comedy Circus’ like ‘Comedy Circus- Chinchpokli To China’, ‘Comedy Circus- 20-20’, ‘Comedy Circus Ke Superstars’, ‘Comedy Circus Ke Tansen’ and more. In the eighth season of the show named ‘Comedy Circus- Maha Sangram’, he became victorious along with his partner VIP. Then, he also hosted the comedy show ‘Ladies Special’ on Zee TV. He also played a small role in Sab TV’s comedy show ‘Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo’. Later, he played the lead role in various Hindi comedy serials. He played the role of Sameer on DD National’s serial ‘Bajega Band Baaja’, which was followed by Sab TV’s ‘Papad Pol’, where he played the role of Vinaychand. In both the serials, he was paired with Ami Trivedi. In 2012, he played the lead role of Sachin on Sab TV’s comedy show ‘Golmaal Hai Bhai Sab Golmaal Hai’.
Apart from Hindi serials, Swapnil has also acted in Hindi serials. He then played the lead character of Yash in the Marathi serial ‘Adhuri Ek Kahani’ opposite Kishori Godbole. He also acted in the comedy serial ‘Tere Gharchya Samor’. He played the role of Pratap in the serial ‘Ardhangini’. He anchored the dance reality show ‘Eka Peksha Ek’ that airs on Zee Marathi. Later, he judged the comedy reality show ‘Fu Bai Fu’ and is still the judge of the show in its seventh season along with Ashwini Kalsekar. He then played the role of Ghana in the most popular serial ‘Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta’ opposite Mukta Barve on Zee Marathi. He has also had his own Radio show named ‘The Swapnil Joshi Show’ on 93.5 Red FM.
Swapnil has also acted in Marathi and Hindi movies. He first played the supporting role of Vikram Dixit in the movie ‘Ghulam-E-Musthafa’, starring Nana Patekar and Raveena Tandon. He then played a small role in ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye’. He also played the lead role of Yash Kumar in the Hindi Movie ‘The Life Zindagi’ in 2011.
His first Marathi movie was ‘Manini’, where he played the lead role of Deepak Rajyadhakshya. In 2008, he acted in the multi-starrer movie ‘Checkmate’ for which he received Best Supporting Actor Award at Maharashtra State Awards. He then played the role of Chinglya in the comedy movie ‘Amhi Satpute’. In 2010, he played the lead role of a boy from Pune in the super-hit romantic movie ‘Mumbai Pune Mumbai’ opposite Mukta Barve. In 2013, he portrayed the role of Shreyas Talvalkar in the biggest Marathi hit of the year ‘Duniyadari’, who had earned gross around Rs.25 crore approximately. The movie also has superstars like Ankush Choudhary, Sai Tamhankar, Jitendra Joshi, Urmila Kanitkar and Richa Pariyali. In the same year, he once again paired opposite Mukta Barve in the movie ‘Mangalashtak Once More’.
In Diwali 2014, Swapnil will be seen opposite Sai Tamhankar once again in Sanjay Jadhav’s movie “Pyaar Vali Love Story”.
Swapnil got married to Aparna in January 2005, but the couple split in 2009. Then, on 16th December 2011, he got married to a dentist Leena Aradhye.
