Prateeksha Lonkar is a Marathi film and television actress. She is best known for playing the lead role in Marathi TV serial ‘Damini’ that aired on DD Sahyadri. She also works in Hindi serials and movies.
Early Life & Background
Prateeksha was born in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Her father was a doctor and her mother was a teacher. After finishing school, Prateeksha opted for Arts and followed her interest in theatre. Later she moved to Mumbai for boosting her acting career.
First Assignment/ First Major Break
Prateeksha became popular after playing a role as Damini in the DD Sahyadri’s serial ‘Damini’.
Journey in the Industry
Prateeksha started her career with a theatre and worked in various plays before entering into television. Prateeksha started her TV career with DD National’s ‘Byomkesh Bakshi’ a Hindi TV serial. However, she became popular after her role as Damini in the DD Sahyadri’s serial ‘Damini’, where she portrayed the character of female journalist.
After Damini, she acted in various Marathi serials like ‘Chaarchaughi’, ‘Pimpalpaan’, ‘Bharaari’ and ‘Purush’. Apart from Mararthi she also acted in Hindi serials like ‘Mrs.Madhuri Dixit’, ‘Duniya’ and ‘Basera’. She also appeared in the serials like Zee TV’s ‘Rishtey’ and Sony TV’s ‘CID’ for an episode. In 2001, she acted in Hindi serial ‘Kahaani Nahi…Jeevan Hai’, which was remade in Marathi in 2003 as Vasudha and Prateeksha played the lead role in both the serials.
Prateeksha’s first Hindi film movie was ‘Gudgudee’ in 1997. Her first Marathi film was ‘Sarkarnama’ in 1998. Then she acted in various Marathi films like ‘Aevdhe Se Aabhaal’, ‘Hee Porgi Kunachi’, ‘Survanta’, ‘Lek Ladki’ and many more. Prateeksha won several awards for her movies ‘Bhet’ in 2002 and ‘Aevdhe Se Aabhaal’ in 2007. In 2012, Prakeetsha portrayed the role of Kanakai the mother of Saint Tukaram in the movie ‘Tukaram’.
Prateeksha has appeared in many Bollywood movies ‘Dor’, ‘Khanna & Iyer’, ‘Hattrick’, ‘Nanhe Jaisalmer’, ‘Heros’, ‘Aashayein’, ‘Mod’ and many more. She had also played the role of Shreyas Talpade’s mother in his debut film ‘Iqbal’. She was also seen in Salman Khan’s superhit movie ‘Wanted’ in a role of Laxmi.
In 2012, Prateeksha played the role of Yashoda Vaishnav in Sony TV’s ‘Byaah Hamari Bahoo Ka’.
Prateeksha is married to a Marathi screenplay writer Prashant Dalvi.
