Sunil Prabhu is an Indian politician who belongs to the political party, Shiv Sena. He is the current Mayor of Mumbai.
Early Life & Background
Prabhu was born on 11th July 1969. He has completed his education in I.T.I.
Journey in Politics
In 1992, Sunil entered into politics through Shiv Sena. He used to be a personal assistant to a senior Shiv Sena leader, Gajanan Kirtikar, who was also the former MLA of Goregaon. He worked for him till 1997. Later, Kirtikar insisted him to contest the civic elections from Aarey Colony. Prabhu accepted the offer and contested the civic elections on behalf of Shiv Sena Party in 1997. He then went on to win three civic elections from the same area. Later, he also contested for a legislative assembly ticket from Dindoshi seat in 2009, but unfortunately, he lost those elections.
However, Prabhu has been voted as the best orator in the civic house on several occasions. He is known for his powerful speeches. He was the leader of the house in BMC for the past six years.
In 2002, he was elected as a Municipal Councilor continuously for the fourth time.
He was the member of Works Committee in Suburbs, Improvements Committee and Standing Committee. He was also the Chairman of South Ward Committee from 2000-2005, and then, the chairman of Standing Committee from 2005-2006.
From 2006 to 2012, Prabhu was the member of Tree Authority and Mayor’s Fund Committee. He was the Vice President of Eklavya Education Trust Goregaon and the Director of Saibaba Vidyamandir. He is the founder of the computer classes named Matoshree Computer Training Centre, which is located in Goregaon, Mumbai.
In 2012, Sunil became the Mayor of Mumbai and took over the work from March 2012. He is the current and the 74th Mayor of Mumbai. He is also the chief of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation aka BMC.
