Uddhav Thackeray is a current leader of the Indian Political Party Shiv Sena. He is the son of Balasaheb Thackeray, the founder of Shiv Sena.
Early Life & Background
Uddhav was born on 27th July 1960 in Mumbai. He is the son of former Shiv Sena leader Balasaheb Thackeray and Meenatai Thackeray. He had an elder brother named Jaidev Thackeray. He is the cousin of MNS leader Raj Thackeray.
Before entering politics, Uddhav was a professional photographer and still continues it as a hobby.
Journey in Politics
Uddhav’s father Balasaheb Thackeray founded the Shiv Sena in 1966. Later, he started publishing his own newspaper named Saamna. Uddhav earlier used to look after Saamna press. However, Uddhav got involved in election campaigning activities in early 2000. He also took the part in various programmes and events held by Shiv Sena. He shown his presence during elections, rallies and speeches held by the party. He got well trained under Balasaheb.
In 2002, Shiv Sena won the Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation election in which Uddhav had shown his support for the party. In the following year, he was appointed as the working president of the party. In 2004, Uddhav was appointed as a Chief of the Shiv Sena. He took this place from his father and the founder of the party late Balasaheb Thackeray. Later, due to various differences between the new chief and the leaders of the party caused the loss to the party. Former Chief Minister Narayan Rane left Shiv Sena and joined Congress, while Uddhav’s cousin Raj Thakeray formed his own political party named ‘Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’. Meanwhile in 2006, he became the Editor In Chief of the newspaper Saamna. He has named as an editor of all publications of Prabodhan Prakashan which publishes Saamna as well as Hindi newspaper Dopahar Ka Saamana.
After the death of Balasaheb Thackeray, Uddhav continued his principals Hindutva. He has shown all his supported for the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for the seat of Prime Minister.
Uddhav is married to Rashmi Thackeray, who helps him in politics. The couple has two sons Adtiya Thackeray, the leader of Yuva Sena and Tejas Thackeray. In July 2012, he was admitted to Lilavati Hospital due to the chest pain problem. Soon he got discharged from the hospital after the successful operation.
