Brief Intro
Riteish Deshmukh is a very well known Bollywood actor and producer. He is popularly known for his role in the comedy movies like ‘Masti’, ‘Kya Kool Hai Hum’ ‘Housefull’ and ‘Hey Baby’. He is the son of the late politician Vilasrao Deshmukh.
Early Life & Background
Riteish was born on 17 December 1978 in Latur, Maharashtra. He is the son of the ex-chief minister of Maharastra Vilasrao Deshmukh and Vaishali Deshmukh. He has two brothers Amit and Dheeraj Deshmukh who are the members of Indian National Congress. He studied from Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute, where he pursued Architecture degree. He then studied architecture in aboard and later used to work as architect before joining acting.
First assignment/ First major break
Riteish debuted in the movie ‘Tujhe Meri Kasam’, however he came into limelight after the role of Amar in the movie ‘Masti’.
Journey in the Bollywood
In 2003, Riteish began his film career with the romantic movie ‘Tujhe Meri Kasam’ opposite Genelia D’Souza. He won Best Male Debut Awards at Screen Awards and Zee Cine Awards for the movie ‘Tujhe Meri Kasam’. Later, he played the role of Jaswinder in the movie ‘Out of Control’. In 2004, he got his major break from the movie ‘Masti’, where he played the role of Amar. ‘Masti’ was the multi-starrer comedy movie starring Ajay Devgn, Lara Dutta, Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani, Ritesh Deshmukh, Amrita Arora and Genelia D’Souza. For the role in ‘Masti’, he won three Best Comedian Awards and was also nominated for the Filmfare Award.
Riteish then played a supporting role in the movies like ‘Bardaasht’ and ‘Naach’ in 2004. In 2005, he portrayed the role of Karan Pandey in Ekta Kapoor’s sex-comedy movie ‘Kya Kool Hai Hum’. It was the success at the box office, especially among youth. In the same year, he played the supporting role of Dittu in the comedy movie ‘Bluffmaster’ along with Abhishek Bachchan. This was Riteish’s second super-hit movie of 2005. In 2006, he played the role of con named Kishan in the movie ‘Apna Sapna Money Money’. The movie hit and for the first time he had performed the role of lady in the movie. He has worked with another Bollywood Marathi actor, Shreyas Talpade in this movie. He also acted in Ram Gopal Varma’s multi-starrer horror movie ‘Darna Zaroori Hai’ in the same year. He played the cameo in the beginning of the movie ‘Namastey London’, starring Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar.
In 2007, Riteish acted in another multi-starrer comedy movie ‘Hey Baby’, directed by Sajid Khan. The movie was the remake of the American film named ‘Three Men and a Baby’. Then he played the role of Roy in the movie ‘Dhamaal’. He then worked with Govinda in the movie ‘Do Knot Disturb’, directed by David Dhawan. In 2009, he played the solo lead role of Aladin opposite Jacqueline Fernandez in the movie ‘Aladin’. In 2010, he was once again paired opposite Jacqueline Fernandez in the movie ‘Jaane Kaha Se Aayi Hai’. In 2012, he worked with Genelia D’Souza for the third time in the movie ‘Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya’.
Riteish played the role of Baburao in the Sajid Khan’s movie ‘Housefull’ in 2010. In 2012, he also acted in the sequel of the movie ‘Housefull’ in the role of Jolly. Later, he once again played the role of Roy in the sequel of the movie ‘Dhamal’ named ‘Double Dhambal’ along with the same cast. In 2012, he acted in the movie ‘Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum’, which was the sequel of ‘Kya Kool Hai Hum’. He also acted in the sequel of block-buster movie ‘Masti’ named ‘Grand Masti’ along with Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani. In all these four movies, Ritesh has worked in original as well as in the sequel of the movie.
In 2013, Riteish debuted as a producer with the Marathi movie ‘Balak Palak’ a k a BP, which was commercially successful. Apart from this, he has also lend his voice for the movie ‘Jhootha Hi Sahi’, starrer John Abraham. In his career, Riteish has won four Zee Cine Awards and four IIFA Awards, mostly in the Best Comedian category.
Another work
As Riteish holds the degree of architecture, he does the work of architecture and owns an architectural and interior designing firm named ‘Evolutions’. He has designed Karan Johar’s apartment and later, also helped art director of his movie ‘Kya Super Kool Hai Hum’ Madhur Sarkar by giving creative inputs regarding the set of a bachelor pad for the film. He is also the owner and the captain of Celebrity Cricket League’s team ‘Veer Marathi’, including Mahesh Manjrekar, Shreyas Talpade, Aniket Vishwasrao, Siddhart Jadhav and many more.
Personal life
Riteish dated actress Genelia D’Souza for almost eight years. On 3rd February 2012, couple got married in the presence of whole Bollywood & Indian Politicians. They had big fat Marathi wedding as well as church wedding.
