Gayatri Joshi is a model turned actress, who debuted in Bollywood movie ‘Swades’ opposite Shah Rukh Khan. It was her first and only film.
Early Life & Background
Gayatri was born on 20 March 1977 in a Marathi-speaking Joshi family in Nagpur, Maharashtra. She studied in Mount Carmel High School in Nagpur and later she shifted to Mumbai with her family and studied in ‘J.B. Vachha High School’ at Dadar. After completing her schooling she went on to study at Sydenham College.
First assignment or project/ First major break
Gayatri was among the top five contestants in the 1999 Femina Miss India beauty pageant. Her major break of her career was her debut movie ‘Swades’.
Journey in the industry
In 1999, Gayatri started her career in the field of modeling by participating in the Femina Miss India beauty pageant, where she was among the top five contestants. In 2000, she was crowned Sony Entertainment Chania voted by viewers, and was chosen to represent India at the 2000 Miss International event in Japan. After all these achievements, Gayatri appeared in the Seasons Catalogue and Calendar during the year 2001.
Gayatri has modeled for many brands like Bombay Dyeing, Philips, Ponds, Godrej, Sunsilk, LG and many more right from her college days. She was also seen in a Hyundai advertisement with Shahrukh Khan. She has also appeared in several music videos like Jagjit Singh’s ‘Kaghaz Ki Kashti’, Hansraj Han’s ‘Jhanjaria’ and a few more.
Gayatri made her Bollywood debut in December 2004 in Ashutosh Gowarikar’s ‘Swades’ opposite Shahrukh Khan. The film did not do commercially well but her performance and acting capabilities were praised immensely by the critics. However, this was Gayatri first and last movie. After that she got married and she quit films.
Gayatri got married to Vikas Oberoi on 27 August 2005 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. Vikas Oberoi is the Managing Director of Oberoi Constructions. She gave birth to a baby boy on September 1, 2006. Her second baby boy was born on 27th August 2007.
