Brief Introduction

Rasika Joshi was a noted Marathi and Hindi film actress. She was seen mostly in supporting roles in movies as well as in television shows.

 

Early Life & Background

Rasika was born on 12th September 1972 in a Marathi Brahmin family in Mumbai.

 

First assignment/ First major break

Rasika was famous among the Marathi audience because of her Marathi shows. However, she became popular among other masses after the show ‘Bandini’.

 

Journey in the industry

Rasika began her acting career with a Marathi play by Lata Narvekar. She was a well-known theatre artist. After theatre, Rasika acted in various Marathi shows like ‘Prapanch’, ‘Ghadlay Bighadlay’, ‘Bua Aala’ and few more, which made her famous among the Marathi audience. Rasika became popular in India, after essaying the negative role of Tara Fui in Ekta Kapoor’s serial ‘Bandini’. She had also worked in 1999’s show ‘Gubbare’.

Rasika had also worked in Bollywood movies in supporting roles. She was first noticed in RVG’s movie ‘Ek Hasina Thi’, where she portrayed the role of Prisoner Gomati. She is best known for her role in the Priyadarshan’s comedy horror movie ‘Bhool Bhulaiya’ in 2007. Later, she became RVG and Priyadarshan’s loyalist, and acted in their movies like ‘Gayab’, ‘Vaastu Shastra’, ‘Sarkar’, ‘Billu’, ‘Malamaal Weekly’ and ‘Dhol’. In her career, she was mostly seen in comedy roles. She was also a part of the multi-starrer horror movie ‘Darna Zaroori Hai’. Apart from these movies, she had also worked in ‘De Talli’, ‘Bhoot Uncle’, ‘Johnny Gaddaar’, ‘Kushti’ and few more. Her last movie was Ram Gopal Verma‘s movie ‘Not A Love Story’.

Rasika had also acted in Marathi movies like ‘Zabardast’ and ‘Khabardar’ as Maruti’s mother. She had also written the story of the popular Marathi movie ‘Yanda Kartavya Aahe’. She had also acted in ‘Nana Mama’ along with the actor Bharat Jadhav. She has written, directed and acted in the play ‘White Lily & Night Rider’ along with Milind Phatak. She won the Best Actress award at MIFTA. It was first Marathi overseas award.

 

Personal life

Rasika was married to Girish Joshi. On 7 July 2011, she died of leukemia in a nursing home in Mumbai, at the age of 39.
