Vidya Malvade is a Bollywood actress and one of the Yash Raj’s Chak De girls.


Early Life & Background

Vidya was born on 2nd March 1972 in Maharashtra. She studied Law and worked as an air hostess before entering the film industry.


First project/ First major break

Vidya started her career with Sony TV’s comedy serial ‘Family No.1’. Her debut in the Bollywood ‘Chak De India’ was her first major break in the industry.


Journey in the industry

Vidya started her career with Sony TV’s comedy family show ‘Family No.1’. She started her Bollywood career with Vikram Bhatt‘s movie ‘Inteha’ in 2003, which failed at the box office. She also acted in movies like ‘Footpath’ and ‘Mashooka’ along with a few advertisements. But success came to her after playing the role of Indian Women’s Hockey team captain, Vidya Sharma in Yash Raj Films’s ‘Chak De India’ along with Shah Rukh Khan in 2007. Vidya was seen with eleven other girls in this movie.

After Chak De, she was offered ‘Kidnap’ opposite Sanjay Dutt in a supportive role in 2008. Vidya was also seen in movies like ‘No Problem’, ‘Striker’ and a few more. In 2012, Vidya was seen in the horror movie ‘1920-Evil Returns’, which was sequel of the movie ‘1920’. She portrayed the role of Aftab’s sister in the movie. Vidya is now filming for three more films ‘Con Flick’ with Govinda, ‘Junction’ with Abhay Deol and ‘Take 2’.

Vidya also participated in the Indian version of Fear Factor ‘Khatroke Khiladi’, which aired on Colors in 2008. Vidya was eliminated from the show in the fourth week.


Personal life

Vidya was first married to Capt. Arvind Singh Bagga in 1997, who was working as a pilot with Alliance Air. He died in 2000 when his flight 7412, collided with a building at Patna. Later in 2009, she married Sanjay Dayma, the screenplay writer & Associate Director of Ashutosh Gowariker’s Oscar nominated film ‘Lagaan’.
