Marathi people and ‘MARATHI DRAMA’ had an adorable connectivity from earlier time. People always like live performance than the recorded picture. Drama art is the one of the most preferred form of an art, which had always played a very important role in Marathi Drama. Mumbai’s ‘SHIVAJI MANDIR NATYAGRUHA’ is one of the biggest and popular platforms of Marathi plays. ‘’SHREE CHATRAPATI SHIVAJI SMARAK MANDAL’’ (TRUST) was established on 31st Dec 1943. Later, this trust started SHIVAJI MANDIR on 3rd May 1965. Now in this year on 3rd May 2015, SHIVAJI MANDIR NATYAGRUHA successfully completed 50 years. Trust’s head shashikant bhalekar said “This Natyagruha had seen various things, various centuries, various people with its own tradition which makes us feel proud”.
It’s a huge Natyagruha in all over the world. Its structure, light system, sound system gives positive atmosphere to audience as well as performing actors. 1000 people can seat and watch the show at Shivaji Mandir. All the veteran stage actors from Natvarya Nanasaheb Fatak, Chintamanrao Kolhatkar, Ganpatrao Bodas, Dattaram, Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar, Dr. Shreeram Lagu, Meenakshi Shirodkar, Sudha Karmkar, Asha Kale to Vikram Gokhle, Prashant Damle and Bharat Jadhav have stated that Shivaji Mandir is their favourite drama theatre. They all said shivaji mandir is always inspirational place for them.
SHIVAJI MANDIR has always appreciated and given chance to a new and different art. 50 years of celebration will be conducted on 7th May with Ex Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, CM Devendra Fadanavis, Education Minister Vinod Tavde and many other theatre actors.
