Brief introduction

Spruha Joshi is an Indian television, theatre and film actress. She is known for her role in the critically acclaimed Marathi film ‘Morya’, and for the serial ‘Unch Maza Zhoka’.


Early life and Background

Spruha Joshi was born on 13th October 1989 in Mumbai. Her father works in a Trimax Company and her mother is a house wife. She has a younger sister Kshipra Joshi won is a sportswomen. She completed her schooling from Balmohan Vidyamandir School, Dadar, and then got graduated from Ruia College. Being an active student in school & college, she used to participate in various plays. Her teacher Vidhya Patvardhan always guided and supported her, whereas, her parents initially opposed her acting profession, but later they too supported her.


First assignment/First break

‘De Dhamaal’ was her first Debut serial, which aired on Alpha Marathi; however her big break came through the Marathi movie ‘Morya’.


Journey in the industry

Spruha started her journey in this industry as a child artist from the serial ‘De Dhamaal’, which aired on Alpha Marathi (now known as Zee Marathi). Her television career as a child artist followed several shows, such as, ‘Agnihotra’ which aired on Star Pravah, where she played the prominent role of Uma Bund, ‘Abhalamaya’ on Zee Marathi, ‘Bombay Lawyers’ on NDTV India, ‘Satyamev Jayte’ and  ‘Ek Ha Asa Dhaga Sukhacha’.

Audience started recognizing Spruha from the popular serial ‘Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta’, starring Mukta Barve and Swapnil Joshi in the lead roles. She played the role of Swapnil Joshi’s sister named Kuhu in the serial.  Soon after that, she worked in another popular Zee Marathi’s serial ‘Unch Maza Zhoka’, where she portrayed the role of elder Ramabai. The story was based on real life of historical lady Ramabai Ranade.

Apart from serials, Spruha has also worked in various Marathi plays. She used to participate in Ekankika Competition since her college days. When she was in Ruia College, she performed in a play ‘Ga Na Bha Na’, which was an award-winning play.  Later, she performed in many plays like, ‘Chirayu’ directed by Sai Pranjpe, ‘Subak’ directed by Sudhir Barve, ‘Lahan Pan De Ga Deva’, ‘Ek Ashi Vyakti’, ‘Yugmak’, ‘Ek aur Mayat’. She has played a strong role of a handicap in the play ‘Ananya’.

Spruha’s debut film was ‘Maaybaap’ directed by Gajendra Ahir in 2004. In 2011, she got a big break with the film ‘Morya’ directed and produced by Avdhoot Gupte.

Spruha is currently playing the role of Esha in the popular serial ‘Eka Lagnachi Tisari Goshta’ opposite Umesh Kamt. The serial is the sequel of ‘Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta’. She is also working in the play ‘Nandi’. Apart from acting,she has anchored and performed in the functions like ‘Unch Maza Zhoka Awards’ and ‘Big Awards’.

Spruha is engaged with Varad Laghate who works in Brand Marketing.
