Abhijeet Sawant is an Indian singer and Bollywood actor. Abhijeet is the winner of the first season of the Indian Idol.
Early Life & Background
Abhijeet was born on 7th October 1981 in a Buddhist Marathi family. He is the son of Shridhar Pandurang Sawant. He spend his childhood at Shahunagar, Dharavi, Mumbai, Maharashtra. He was the student of Raja Shivaji Vidyalaya Dadar, Mumbai. After SSC he studied in Chetana college of Commerce & Economics in Bandra, Mumbai. From his school days, he was passionate about joining the Music Industry.
First assignment/ First major break
‘Indian Idol season 1’ was the first major platform for Abhijeet Sawant.
Journey in the industry
Sony TV’s Indian Idol gave the major break to Abhijeet Sawant to show his singing talent. He was the winner of Indian Idol season one, show which was based on US show American Idol. After Indian Idol, he released his first solo ablum ‘Aapka Abhijeet Sawant’ on April 7, 2005. The album contains songs sung by Abhijeet and his fellow Indian Idol contestants Amit Sana and Prajakta Shukre. ‘Mohabbatein Lutaunga’ became the famous song from that album and everybody was dancing on that tune. After ‘Aapka Abhijeet Sawant’ on 10th July 2007 he released his second album ‘Junoon The title track ‘Junoon’ was a major hit and stayed on top of record charts for weeks. ‘Ek shaqs’ from the same album became another major hit song. On 2nd April 2013, Abhijeet launched his third album ‘Farida’.
Abhijeet also participated in Star Plus’s singing reality show ‘Clinic All Clear Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar’. He didn’t win the show but he became the first runner up of the show.
After becoming famous in youth, Abhijeet made a special appearance in the very popular youth based show of Sony ‘Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai’ as himself for one episode. He also performed at Star Parivaar Awards 2008, along with his ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar’’ contestants like Ruprekha Banerjee, Ishmeet Singh Sodhi, Rahul Vaidya, Prajakta Shukre and Vinit Singh. He was also the part of the comedy shows like Star One’s ‘Laughter Ke Phatke’ and Sony TV’s ‘Comedy Circus Ke Taansen’, were he landed as a second runner up with his partners Bharti Singh & Aksshat Saluja.
In 2009, Abhijeet along with his wife Shilpa, participated in the Star Plus’s dancing reality show ‘Nach Baliye season 4’. Unfortunately due to public votes they couldn’t make it to the finals but they were Judges favorite pair. In 2010, Abhijeet co-hosted Sony TV’s fifth season of ‘Indian Idol’ along with Hussain Kuwajerwala and had also performed in the finale of Indian Idol 4. He had also featured in the episode of Sony TV’s ‘CID’.
Abhijeet Sawant was the only contestant from India in the first edition of Asian Idol which was held in Jakarta, Indonesia. The show was won by Hady Mirza of Singapore Idol, but Abhijeet was credited by the judges for giving Asian audience a taste of Indian music. He landed in third position.
He got his first break in Bollywood by Himesh Reshammiya in a movie ‘Aashiq Banaya Aapne’ where he sang ‘Marjawaan Mitjawaan’. He also made a small appearance at the end of film ‘Tees Maar Khan’ in the song Happy Ending. Abhijeet made his debut into acting by the movie Lottery along with television actress Rucha Gujrathi & Manisha Kelker. Film was directed by Hemant Prabhu.
A book was launched on his life journey named ‘Abhijeet’.
Another Events or Social Activities
He has joined the Shiv Sena as a young face of the party to attract youth.
He played a charity cricket match for the team ‘Creative Masters XI’ against ‘Actorlectics, which was witnessed by Senior citizen.
Personal life
Abhijeet Got married to his long term girlfriend Shilpa on 4th December 2007.
