Viju Khote is an Indian actor who has acted in supporting roles in more than 300 films. He is well known for his roles like Kalia from the movie ‘Sholay’ and Robert from the movie ‘Andaz Apna Apna’.
Early Life & Background
Viju Khote was born as Vithal Bapurao Khote on 17th December. His father Nandu Khote was a noted stage & silent movies actor. He is the brother of actress Shubha Khote and whose aunt was actress Durga Khote.
Journey in the industry
Viju Khote is a well known Indian actor, who was worked in many Hindi as well as Marathi movies. He started appearing in movies in mid 1960’s. He was first seen in the movie ‘Ya Malak’ in 1964. Later he acted in the movies like ‘Anokhi Raat’, ‘Ganwaar’, ‘Jalte Badan’, ‘Insaaniyat’, ‘Raampur Ka Lakshman’ and few more.
Viju came into a limelight after playing the role of Kalia from the movie ‘Sholay’ in 1975. He played a minor role in it but his character is still remembered by audience, especially his dialogue ‘Sardar Meine Aapka Namak Khaya Hai’. Later he got somewhat similar and minor roles in the movies like ‘Qurbani’, ‘Karz’, ‘Nagina’, ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ and so on.
In 1994, one of his another minor role of Robert from the movie ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ became popular among masses. In 2000’s, he played various roles in the movies like ‘Mela’, ‘Pukar’, ‘Khiladi 420’, ‘Viruddh’, ‘Family’, ‘Halla Bol’, ‘Dhoondte Reh Jaoge’,’Garam Masala’, ‘Corporate’ and more. In 2009, he once again played the character name Robert in the movie ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. He also played a small role of Shambu Kaka in the movie ‘Golmaal 3’ in 2010 and a role of judge in ‘Tees Maar Khan’ in 2010.
He has also acted in the Marathi movies. His negative role as Bali from the Marathi movie ‘Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi’ was quite popular among Marathi audiences. He also acted in the movies like ‘Aaitya Bilavar Nagoba’, ‘Jatra’, ‘Majha Navra Tujhi Bayko’ and more. In 2012, he portrayed the role of Manwa Naik’s dad in the comedy movie ‘No Entry Pudhe Dhoka Aahey’.
He has also acted in many television shows, mostly in comedy shows. He is most famous for his role as Vittal Pote in the serial ‘Zabaan Sambhalke’. He has also appeared in the few episodes of Sony TV’s ‘C.I.D.’ in a cameo role. He has also appeared in the talk shows like ‘Movers and Shakers’ and recently on Zee Marathi’s ‘Khupte Tithe Gupte’.
